Speak Animal Farm

Hey everyone.

For those of you who are reading Speak, I would like for you to finish the "Fourth Marking Period."  I will send questions next week.  I will also send a list of vocabulary words and a worksheet.  Next week I will give you an essay question on sexual abuse and how Melinda mirrors abuse victims.  Remember what I told you abour Maya Angelou.

 

For those of you who read Animal Farm, I would like for you to find the PDF of the novel on your computer.  Find a Sparknote and read the parallels of Socialism.  Look at how Napoleopn represents Stalin and Snowball represents Trotsky.  Look at the parallels of the happenings in Soviet Russia and the farm.  How were the animals mistreated like the people in Russia?  Who did all the work? Next week I will give you an essay question based on this research.



Novel- The Confession

You guys know that I am not very tech savy, so if you can think of ways to make this better, please let me know.

We are going to begin by reading Chapter 21-25 of The Confession.  I will post a series of questions on Wed. 4/8.  I will take a test grade on this.  

I will also post vocabulary words on Tuesday- 4/7.  I want to get you as many good grades as possible, so keep up with the due dates.  If you have a question, use my school email- kbrooks@monroeacademy.org.

To begin with, I would like for you to find the PDF of Fever 1793 on your computer.  Read chapter 21 through the end.  I will send questions one day next week.  I will also send vocabulary words and a worksheet.  Later, you will write a paper on how Matilde matured from the beginning to the end of the book.  Keep up with her struggles, and how they made her a stronger person.

 

If your parents want to pick up a copy of Fever, they are in my room in the shelf.

Hey Guys! I want you to find the PDF of the short story on your computer.

“Flowers for Algernon” Daniel Keyes

The genre (category) of the story is Science Fiction.

It is told in first person by the main character Charlie Gordon.

Charlies has learning disabilities and has agreed to take part in a scientific experiment to make himself smarter. To begin with the experiment works, but thing begin to go wrong.

The story is written in a series of progress reports, much like journal entries.

Some of the main characters are Charlie Gordon, Algernon, and Alice Kinnian.

Some of the themes are: 1. Does intelligence make us more or less human?

                                             2. Man playing God

                                             3. Friendship and its value

                                             4. The definition of intelligence

The entries have dates. As you read keep notes on haw Charlie improves and then begins to deteriorate. I will give questions on this next week, as well as vocabulary.
